Mount Wilson Observatory is operated on behalf of the Carnegie Institution of Washington by the Mount Wilson Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a three-fold mission of:
- fostering public appreciation of the historic cultural heritage of the Observatory
- utilizing the Observatory's assets and landmark scientific legacy for educational purposes
- preserving the Observatory for scientific research programs for which it is uniquely suited.
